Day of Independence

Even though we are in Kenya, we have not forgotten our motherland.  As a matter of fact, we celebrated the 4th of July as best we knew how.

First, every 4th of July should have a parade.  We passed one on our way home from church.

I realize it's the wrong flag.  But a parade is a parade!  And just for your peace of mind, the backwards dancing man did not fall into the pot hole/pit.

Secondly, fireworks which were a little harder to come by, and they go away so quickly!  So I made an arrangement to sort of represent fireworks.  Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Any American celebration involves lots of food, so we cooked, and asked other people over, and they brought food and it was delicious!  And fun!

Of course we had one remaining requirement.  Apple pie.  Thanks to mini-missionary Megan, who made American apple pie from scratch.  Aaaahhh....
