Brotherly Love

I love this picture because I love the kids in the picture, and I love how they are loving each other.  Enough said.

Action

This is really day 2 of GAMES that happened about a month ago.  It was too fun not to share with you so here goes!

It started with all of the students running to line up first thing in the morning.  There's nothing quite like having lots of kids running pelmel to you.

They competed in an obstacle course engineered by our wonderful mini-missionaries. After racing with tires, doing a dizzy bat spin,

crossing the rings,

sliding, and other fun ways to get their energy out,

they stood with their teammates and cheered the next person on.

The older kids had an even more interesting obstacle course.  They were quite worn out. :)

Meanwhile, the pinatas were given their final coating of newspaper and put out to dry.

In the afternoon, the girls watched The Secret Garden and the boys, yes boys, made friendship bracelets.

When asked if they had a fun day, the answer was always, "Yes, please!"

The Fall of Sennecherib

Class 6 seemed to be a bit preoccupied at the end of last term.  They decided to do a drama for recitation, and then jumped full swing into all the work that a drama entails: casting, script, memorization, props, and costumes.  The morning of recitation, they allowed me to come in and observe their antics of preparing for the moving drama "The Fall of Sennecherib."  I'm so glad I brought my camera.

It's GAMES Time!

Good morning, and welcome to the first week of GAMES!

We will start the day with a bit of duck, duck goose

followed by colouring.

Our wonderful friend and minimissionary will then take you through the finer points of starting your very own pinata,

complete with pasted hands.

Plenty of mammas,

minimissionaries,

and aunties will be around to assist.

Finally, we will move outside for basketball drills and relays

focusing on dribbling in the right direction.

You will have your own cheering section.

Not all of us are learning basketball, however.

A few have come back to school for extra maths tuition!

In the afternoon, a game of knockout

mixed with loving on your friends,

puts a smile on everyone's face!

Laudamus Te

At Term 2 Recitation, the Junior and Senior Secondary Schools Choir performed "Laudamus Te" for the finale.  This is a recording from the dress rehearsal the day before.  (Thanks Liz!) It is in Latin, which our students did a great job of learning.  Props to Richard for beefing up the men's section and to Julie for her excellent piano skills.  I think all of us enjoyed working on this song.  Happy listening!

What is the time, Mr. Lion?

In the year (wow!) that I've been blogging, I've shown you lots of pictures with a few music videos sprinkled in. When I see the kids in pictures I also here how they talk and phrase questions because I am around them every day.  I had a brain flash this morning that accents don't translate through still pictures or choir pieces (hopefully), so here is a short video of the Class 1 students during GAMES playing the kids' game "What is the time, Mr. Fox?" but substituting in a Mr. Lion.  (When you live in Kenya, foxes aren't quite so scary anymore.) Enjoy the accents that we love hearing everyday!
